The Wicked Book vs. Play

Earlier this year, I made the effort to fly down to Singapore to catch The Wicked. It is the show I've been wanting to watch for years! It meant so much to me after I've been chasing the cast from New Zealand to Melbourne... it's like a dream come true.

For a revisit of Wicked fever, I started to read the book.

Page after page, I've found out that the book and the play is totally different! Although the story line in the play is parallel to the book, but there are many facts that are different.

  1. Nesarose is not only limp on the wheelchair, she has no limb at all.
  2. Nesarose did not go to Shiz together with Elphaba, she is one semester later than Elphaba.
  3. Glinda and Fiyero wasn't a couple and never was. Fiyero was married in his childhood but years later, he had an affair with Elphaba.

Like most of the movie-tie-in books, it is much better to read than to watch. Half way to finish the book, I already look forward to read the second book. If you're a fan of The Wicked or you've watched the play before, you definitely have to read the book.
