Jiufen Street Snacks 九份小吃

The main street at Jiufen has many food stalls selling street snacks. Let me give you some tips... Start testing the food from the first stall until the very end, you will eventually get full. It's a great way to save some pennies. Besides, not all the food taste that good. End of tips... Now faster say "Thank you, Jerine!".

I shall first introduce to you Jiufen's most famous fish ball stall.

Although they don't provide free tester, I guarantee it is very good and there's no harm for you to buy a bowl to test. It is super good! I would personally prefer if they have curry fish ball, it would taste even better!

I also had the tofu which is sold at the same stall.

The sauce tasted weird though. Anyway, if you want to try this just remember to ask them to put the sauce aside. I really love the pork stuffing inside the tofu...

Immediately when we reached Jiufen, I met a very handsome boy and I fell head over heels at once...

He smiling at me all the time!!! So cute I want to kiss his nose!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a very cute drinks stall... All the drinks are put in containers that resemble baby bottles...

Freshly made Chinese biscuit...

Fried deep sea squid... It's so huge!!!

Bak wan...

These are Jiufen's version of meatballs. The meat is wrapped with a layer of glutinous ball. They have the steamed and fried version. Both are equally good, depending on which one you prefer.

I told myself to buy these roasted mushroom on the way back, but I forgot :(

I bought 2 herbal eggs but didn't manage to eat them because I was too full beyond anything...

So wasted because the tea smells really good and I'm pretty sure the eggs taste really good too.

Don't forget to try Jiufen's special food... I'm not sure what they call it. It has a thin layer of crepe with ice cream with some groundnuts and sugar....

You see that brown block on the right side (above)? That's the sugar I meant. It has groundnuts in it too. OMG... This thing is so complicated, I really don't know how to explain it. Anyway, try it and you'll know.

Some green tea cake

Andrew bought it for me to try. The texture is kinda like dodol but with green tea taste and inside has some pounded groundnuts. It's really good.

I tasted some honey-tea drink that apparently is good for health in many ways...

If you're a tea connoisseur, do stop by at Jiufen's Tea House

I personally think that the Jiufen's Tea House is a bit too overrated and commercialized. There are so many tea houses in Jiufen that serving the same thing. There's nothing outstanding about this tea house anyway... I'm contradicting myself to ask you guys to visit the place :S

They say Jiufen has the most magnificent view at the top. You just have to keep walking until the top to enjoy the view. But of course, do enjoy all the food stalls and curio shops along the way too...

Kid's game stall

And a very special candy store that sells old school candies... Reminded me of childhood...

Music instrument shop..

I really don't know what music instrument is this. It is made of fruit or vegetable.

I thought the owl was uber cute. They're my source of inspiration for my up coming painting.

Chinese calligraphy stall...

Have you ever seen calligraphy brush that is made out of ghost hair???

I found a store that make Chinese name stamp. You know like those emperor use to attest on his official letters and statement???

I really want one because it's so special. It was really hard to choose the design I want because I was spoiled with choices. After choosing the type of typography you want, you have to choose the stamp...

I took the black one with diamantes and bling bling. And this is my current royal assent....

Let me show you a really funny signboard...

OK... It's only funny if you read Cantonese... Dim gai lei gam poh mah geh???

Behold, I shall present to you the famous view of Jiufen..

NOT!

Ahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so misty that day, I could only see mist! Behind all the blurry mist is actually a very scenic hill and beach spread underneath the hill with some islands as backdrops. Apparently it is breath-taking.

Anyway, I didn't regret climbing up there even though I didn't get to see anything because I found some really cute cats...

Look at their ears! They've been marked by the owners. I'm not sure how they cut off that little flesh out of the cats' ears but it seems quite cruel to me.

Ear tipping identifies free-roaming cats that have been sterilized. Ear tipping is completely safe and it is performed under general anesthetic.

The snack that contains peanut and icecream, perhaps you can call it "Ice Cream Spring Roll With Peanuts"
